ABOUT BRIAN
Brian was so wonderful to work with; he made me and my camera-shy groom feel so comfortable and at ease the entire night. It was like he was one of our guests! Brian studied documentary photography at the University of Missouri’Äôs graduate program for photojournalism. His award-winning images have been published throughout the U.S. and Europe. Most recently, he was asked to photograph Portland icons for the major UK daily, The Guardian. His photography has been featured in the New York Times, Sports Illustrated, and The Oregonian, and his latest photography has been featured in Portland Bride and Groom.
Brian draws on his experience as a documentary photographer to provide couples with insightful, unexpected, and intimate imagery. His personality and professionalism put the bride and groom at ease. Ultimately, his objective is to stay away from a traditional, expected approach and instead provide an inspired and nuanced visual story of the celebration.
Because Brian enjoys working with fellow talented photographers, the couples benefit from the insight of a second skilled photographer. With two photographers, the couple receives two complimentary interpretations of the day.
Photographing weddings allows Brian to balance his documentary work with the more personal experience he gets from working closely with the bride and groom and their families. He is a proud member of Wedding Photojournalists Association and Wedding Photography Directory. In his free time, he is an avid cyclist and mountaineer.
GREEN PHILOSOPHY
GREEN PHILOSOPHY ON ANENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY WEDDING
There are approximately 75 chemicals used in the process of film including bromine, hydrochloric acid, and formaldehyde. Most are toxic. Thankfully, most wedding photographers now use a digital process, reducing their reliance on toxic chemicals. Brian has decided to commit to an environmentally responsible and proactive approach to reducing his impact on the environment.
Here are a few things that Brian does to reduce his footprint on our shared environment:
1. All energy in his workspace is generated by renewable energy provided by Green Mountain Energy.
2. His car spends most of its time in front of his house collecting road dust while his bicycle tires wear out every two months.
3. Brian estimates his carbon impact from each wedding and offsets it through TerraPass. He has begun this in 2008 and plans to continue offsetting his carbon footprint.
4. To encourage his client’Äôs participation in green practices, Brian subsidizes half of the carbon offset calculated by Terra Pass’Äô Wedding estimator (up to $200).
5. Brian’Äôs album manufacturer and print lab are partners in his approach to reducing environmental impact, and he is committed to adding new green partners going forward.
6. Brian also requires his assistants to offset their carbon footprint.
